PELLA – Central College volleyball coach Jeanne Czipri was ready to have her team play at home after starting the season with nine straight road matches and Tuesday night the Dutch shined in a 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20 win over Iowa Conference rival Simpson College.

"I was a little bit nervous because you just don't know what to expect," said Czipri. "The last time we played on this floor was our scrimmage and we showed some jitters and we weren't clean but we've come a long way in those two weeks and I was really excited to see what we did today."

Senior outside hitter Mollie Mason (Iowa City, West HS) led Central with 13 kills and had two service aces.

"I kept telling our setters to keep finding our hot hitters and Mollie was one of them tonight," said Czipri. "It was exciting to see her play well."

Senior outside hitter Kylie Gerstein (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) had 10 kills and senior middle hitter Jenna Dille (Carlisle) flirted with a statistical double-double, finishing with nine kills and eight blocks.

Junior setter Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) quarterbacked the offense with 28 assists and senior setter Regan Nelson (Pella) added 11 assists.

Central won the attack percentage battle with Simpson (3-5 overall, 0-1 conference) .223-.104.

"Our hitters did an excellent job tonight," said Czipri.

The Dutch had 11 blocks, seven more than the Storm.

After starting the season off 0-5, Central has rattled off five straight wins and looks to continue the winning ways Thursday night when Iowa Wesleyan heads to Pella. First serve is at 7:30 p.m. Live video and stats are available at athletics.central.edu
