Lydia Grond
Hull, Iowa
Class of 2025

Why did you choose Central?

I am from a very small town in Iowa so Central seemed like a fit in terms of class sizes. The women’s golf team and science programs were also big draws!

Favorite professor and why?

I had Professor Lori Witt for LAS my freshman year. She was really intentional at getting to know the first-year students and providing a space for all of us to become friends. Professor Witt really listens and cares about her students.

You’re majoring in biochemistry because? (fill-in the blank with your major)

My future plan is to go to pharmacy school and specialize in psychiatric pharmacy. A biochemistry major allows me to get a majority of the prerequisites for pharmacy school completed as well as learn metabolism and absorption principles that are important for therapeutic drugs.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

I work in the library at the circulation desk as well as tutor for writing and some subjects.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

Anyone who knows me well will say Taylor Swift, but I also enjoy Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams, Del Water Gap, Briston Maroney, and so many others.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

I have really learned time management and that I am not always going to perform at my absolute best but to just enjoy where I am at!

What’s your favorite course you’ve ever played?

I really enjoyed El Campeon at Mission Inn Resort in Florida.

What’s the one club you know you’ll hit pure every time?

My putter–I love it.

The best restaurant in Pella is…

Windmill Cafe breakfast. I get the same thing every time and it never gets old.

What is your most favorite place on Earth and why?

Northern Minnesota or Utah. I really enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors and these places have the best views and weather.

Favorite TV Show

I am not really a big TV person, but I would have to say any docu-series!

What’s it like to play for Coach Schumacher?

It is great! She is really flexible and understands that golf is not always our top priority. She allows us to change our practice schedules or adjust anything if we need to. She has also lined up some pretty awesome tournaments and spring break trips for us.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central’s women’s golf team?

My teammates! We all get really close and support each other. Every one of us pushes each other to work hard on the course and in the classroom. We are all always there for one another.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

I hope to be working in a hospital pharmacy, golfing in my free time, traveling, and living in  Wisconsin or the Pacific Northwest!

Favorite food from Central Market

I am always excited when there is salmon and asparagus on the menu.

Bucket list

Visit all of the National Parks, golf a course in every state, get a mini goldendoodle, see Taylor Swift in concert again, and get Kate Martin’s autograph
