SAINT PETER, MINN.— The Central College women's tennis contingent got its matches in Friday at the ITA Division III Midwest Regional Friday before rain eradicated the consolation side of the brackets Satrday.
           
The doubles tandem of Claire Smock (sophomore, Pella) and Sidney Peterson (sophomore, Johnston) claimed an 8-1 win over Tess McGlenn and Sky Shinohara of Lawrence University (Wis.) in the main regional draw before falling 8-3 against Chloe Regal and Annia Wierzbicki of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Central's other doubles pairing of Emma Murphy (senior, Liberty, Mo.) and Lauren Gano (senior, Johnston) lost 8-2 against Lena Lichau and Allie Christensen of Luther College.
           
In the singles portion of the Regional, Peterson fell 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 against Ashley King of St. Catherine University (Minn.) while Gano dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match opposite Reese Keller of the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.
           
Central also had singles entries at the Midwest Invitational held concurrently with the regional championships. Smock won 4-2, 4-0 over Claire Kimman of Concordia College – Moorhead (Minn.) and 5-4 (7-3), 4-2 over Rahel Malm of Concordia University (Wis.) before being eliminated 4-0, 4-0 by Eleanor Aitken of Wis.-Stevens Point. Murphy won 4-2, 4-1 over Ava Stritseky of the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) before succumbing to Valentina Huesca of Carthage College (Wis.) 2-4, 5-3, 10-5 in the next round. Emily Blom (junior, Pella) lost her only match 5-4 (1), 2-4, 10-6) against Gabby Schmidtmann of Edgewood University (Wis.).
           
The Dutch play at the University of Dubuque and Loras College next Sunday, October at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively
