PELLA— After narrowly missing securing the doubles point, the Central College women's tennis team was blanked by Coe College 7-0 Friday afternoon.
           
Central's (4-2, 3-1 A-R-C) No. 2 doubles team of Claire Smock (sophomore, Pella) and Sidney Peterson (sophomore, Johnston) were victorious 6-2. The No. 1 tandem of seniors Lauren Gano (Johnston) and Emma Murphy (Liberty, Mo.)  battled to the end but ultimately lost 7-6 (7-3). Coe (4-2, 3-0 conference) also won at No. 3 to take the point.
           
The Dutch lost all six singles matches but had a pair of close defeats. Emily Blom (junior, Pella) lost 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 4. Rebekah Christensen (Marshalltown) won her first set at No. 6 but succumbed 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8).
           
Central hosts Wartburg College Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
