SAINT PAUL, MINN. — Getting back on track with a pair of wins at the Saint Paul Classic Saturday, the Central College volleyball team defeated Hamline University (Minn.) and Augsburg University (Minn.)
Central (5-3) started with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-23 sweep over Hamline (2-5) before closing the day with a 25-27, 25-18, 25-18, 25-11 win against Augsburg (1-4)
The Dutch attack broke out against the Auggies, sparked by 15 kills from middle hitter
Kaitlyn Mumm (senior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) and 13 from middle hitter
Sophia Folkerts (senior, Dike, Dike-New Hartford HS). Mumm also was in in four blocks.
Grace Corey (sophomore, Watertown, S.D.) had 22 set assists and
Landry Pacha (senior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) had 19.
Alexis Crowley (sophomore, Romeoville, Ill.) had four service aces and
Emily Brunson (sophomore, Marion, Linn-Mar HS) had 11 digs.
Against the Pipers,
Maelyn Wainwright (junior, West Liberty) and
Alex McNab (sophomore, Colorado Springs, Colo., Pine Creek HS) had seven kills apiece to lead Central. Corey had a team-high 16 assists and Mumm led with three service aces. McNab and Corey each had seven digs.
"We are really happy with our response today," coach
Jeanne Czipri said. "We stayed true to our identity and learned from some of the challenges we struggled with yesterday. We have a lot of athletes doing a lot of really good things and handling competition and pressure well."
Central is at the Marilyn Scribner Invitational hosted by Wheaton College (Ill.) next Friday and Saturday.
