Central puts four on American Rivers Conference weekly honor roll

PELLA — Men's golfer Carter Yurgae (sophomore, Des Moines Dowling Catholic HS) was selected as the American Rivers Conference Male Athlete of the Week to headline four weekly honorees for Central College.

Yurgae was joined by baseball position player Max Steinlage (senior, Cedar Falls), men's tennis player Bodi Kortz (freshman, Wormeveer, St. Michael College) and men's track athlete Kale Hobart (junior, Mason City).

At the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational over the weekend, Yurgae shared the title in the 255-golfer field. His two-day total of 69-71—140 led the Dutch team to a 13th place finish out of 41 teams.

Steinlage had five hits and drove in four runs during a 2-1 week for Central. Three of those hits and two RBI came during Central's 8-5 victory over. He had two more hits in the 10-4 win over Coe College Saturday.

Hobart earned track events athlete of the week after his winning time of 14.65 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles was enough to win the Dutch-Storm dual meet. His time is No. 24 on the Division III TFFRS list. He also won the pole vault with a clearance of 15 feet, 0 inches.

In a 7-0 dual win over Simpson, Kortz won his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-0 and his No. 1 doubles match 6-0 with Alex Slaymaker. Central made it 51 straight victories against Simpson in men's tennis.
