Dutch lose high-powered offensive showdown in game three against Coe

Central come up just shotrt of winning series

PELLA —  The Central College baseball team hosted Coe College for a series-deciding game three Monday afternoon in a game that went down to the wire. Although Central put up an impressive offensive showing, Coe came out on top with a 9-8 victory.

The Dutch put up 14 total hits en route to scoring their eight runs, which include a pair of two-run homeruns from seniors Dylan Williams (first baseman, Woods Cross, Utah) and Brayden Sawyer (third baseman, Grundy Center). Senior Jaden Kramer (center fielder, Cedar Falls) led the team with three hits, including a double in the bottom of the ninth.

"The coaches did a good job preparing us for Coe's pitching staff in our scout meeting earlier in the week and we had great communication throughout the game as a team, talking to each other and passing on information regarding the pitchers sequencing," Kramer stated in regard to his success.

Max Steinlage (senior, Cedar Falls) started the game on the mound for Central and went five innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits while recording five strikeouts. Bryce Haessig (senior, Huxley, Ballard HS) then entered in relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits and two HBP's in one inning pitched. Turner Williams (junior, Newton) finished it out for the Dutch, recording three innings pitched while allowing two earned runs on four hits.

It will be a quick turnaround for Central, who host Buena Vista for a double header tomorrow. The first pitch of game one is at 1 p.m.
