Central cruises against Cornell softball squad

Dutch bag two run-rule victories

PELLA — Another strong offensive showing saw the Central College softball team win a pair of non-conference home games against Cornell College Thursday afternoon.
           
Central (26-10) ended both games against Cornell (22-15) early via the run-rule, needing five innings in the first game 10-2 and six innings for an 8-0 win in game two.
           
The Dutch had a pair of strong pitching performances. Jadyn Huisman (junior, Treynor) allowed just one earned run in the first game on five hits and two walks over five innings. Ella Morse (freshman, Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS) allowed no runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts in six innings.
           
Emma Anderson (sophomore, right fielder, Forest City) had a pair of two-hit games, with a combined four RBI after two doubles and a triple.
           
Game two saw Central have five extra-base hits. Anderson and Rylee Dunkin (junior, catcher, Hamilton, Twin Cedars HS) each had triples while Anderson, Sarah Stufflebeam (junior, shortstop, Macomb, Ill. ) and Ali Henry each had doubles. Stufflebeam and Hannah Higgins (senior, Macomb, Ill.) each drove in a pair of runs in the second game.
           
Ten different players combined for 22 total hits for the Dutch.
           
Central closes out the regular season with a doubleheader Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri against Washington University – St. Louis.
