PELLA — Limiting a potent Simpson College offense to two hits while pitching and driving in four runs at the plate, Central College softball's sophomore pitcher
Jadyn Huisman (Treynor) was key to a 7-3 win Thursday.
The 23rd ranked Dutch (19-5, 2-2 A-R-C) dropped the second game to the 11th ranked Storm (24-5, 7-3 A-R-C) 10-2 in five innings.
Huisman got the win in the circle after working 6.2 innings. She didn't register a strikeout but induced 12 fly outs and six ground outs. She scattered two hits and four walks. All three runs charged to her were scored after she was lifted from the game.
Ella Morse (Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS) got the final out after a pair of Storm hits gave them three runs.
At the plate, Huisman had a two-RBI single in the first inning, was hit by a pitch with bases loaded in the third and a solo home run in the fifth.
Shortstop
Sarah Stufflebeam (junior, Macomb, Ill.) and third baseman
Hannah Higgins (senior, Macomb, Ill.) also had two hit games. Both Stufflebeam and second baseman
Larissa Miller (junior, Ankeny) scored a pair of runs.
In the nightcap, Central was limited to three hits while Simpson erupted for 14.
Peyton Levine (freshman, Oswego, Ill., Yorkville HS) suffered the loss as the starting pitcher, yielding 10 of the hits and seven earned runs. Morse also logged the final five outs of the second game.
The Dutch host Coe College for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
