Dutch secure big conference softball doubleheader sweep

Central takes care of business against Coe

PELLA — For the fourth time in five years, the Central College softball swept Coe College Saturday afternoon.

Central (21-5, 4-2 American Rivers Conference) beat Coe (17-13, 2-6 conference) 6-2 in the opener and 8-4 in the second game.

Rebounding from a hitless doubleheader Thursday against Simpson, Rylee Dunkin (junior, catcher, Hamilton, Twin Cedars HS) recorded four hits to reach the 100-hits club. Three of those hits came in game two where she also scored three runs.

Dunkin had one of three triples for the Dutch on the day as Ali Henry (sophomore, left fielder, Osceola, Clarke HS) and Sarah Stufflebeam (junior, shortstop Macomb, Ill.) each also had one. Hannah Higgins (senior, third baseman, Macomb, Ill.) had two hits and two RBI in each contest.

The Dutch offense totaled 20 hits on the day and scored in seven of a possible 12 innings, including notching one run in the first inning of both games to start with an early lead.

In the circle, Jadyn Huisman (sophomore, Treynor) won her 10th game of the season in game one. She went the full 7.0 innings, scattering six hits and two walks. Both earned runs charged to her came on a seventh-inning home run.

Peyton Levine (freshman, Oswego, Ill., Yorkville HS) was the winning pitcher in game two, surrendering four earned runs in 4.0 innings with no walks and eight hits. Ella Morse (freshman, Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS) picked up a three-inning save, her second of the season.

The Dutch travel to Decorah Sunday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Luther College.
