WAVERLY — In its third American Rivers Conference match in as many days, the Central College men's tennis team lost to Wartburg College 5-2.
The top of Central's (3-14, 2-2 American Rivers Conference) singles lineup had big wins.
Bodi Kortz (freshman, Wormerveer, Netherlands/St. Michael College) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot.
Alex Slaymaker (Junior, Geneseo, Ill.) battled for a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 win in the No. 2 slot. Three of the other four singles players in the lineup pushed at least one set to a tiebreaker but ultimately lost.
In doubles play,
Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy (freshman, Kerrville, Texas, Tivy HS) and
Gavin Jablonski (junior, Marshalltown) gave Central a win at No. 2, taking a 7-5 victory.
Central travels to Cedar Rapids next Saturday for a 10 a.m. match against Coe College.
