DES MOINES — Losing just 13 games, the Central College men's tennis team secured a quick 7-0 triumph against Simpson College in the American Rivers Conference opener Wednesday.
Central (2-12, 1-0 A-R-C) found its groove against Simpson (3-12, 0-1 A-R-C) following a difficult non-conference campaign loaded with tough matches.
A clean sweep of the doubles included 6-0 wins at No. 1 doubles from
Bodi Kortz (freshman, Wormerveer, Netherlands/St. Michael College) and
Alex Slaymaker (Junior, Geneseo, Ill.) and No. 3 doubles from
Hayden Sinclair (junior, Ames) and
Francisco Molina Centeno (freshman, Mexico City, Mexico, Centro Educativo Jean Piaget). The No. 2 tandem of
Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy (freshman, Kerrville, Texas, Tivy HS) and
Gavin Jablonski (junior, Marshalltown) won 6-1.
In singles, Kortz triumphed 6-2, 6-0 in the top spot. Slaymaker was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 2. Alvarez Chedzoy won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.
Jablonski and
Quin Hull (senior, Ottumwa) won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Molina Centeno won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Central hosts Nebraska Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 9.
