PELLA— Responsible for the game-winning RBI twice this weekend against Wartburg College, Central College baseball's
Brayden Sawyer (senior, Grundy Center) was named the American Rivers Conference Position Player of the Week Monday.
The leadoff hitter for Central in four games last week, Sawyer had nine hits and nine RBI. He had two hits in each of three games against Wartburg College and three against Cornell College.
He had the go-ahead single in both of Central's wins over Wartburg this weekend. He plated two runners in the seventh inning of Central's 6-5 win Friday. He broke a ninth-inning tie with an RBI single in the ninth inning of a 14-12 win Saturday.
The starting pitcher in Monday's 12-2 win against Cornell College, Sawyer tossed 6.1 innings and allowed 0 earned runs. He gave up four hits and had four strikeouts.
It's the third time Central has won the Position Player of the Week this season.
Central travels to Buena Vista University for a single game Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
