Dutch bag three softball wins Monday

Central tallies 31 runs in one day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 MELBOURNE, FLORIDA— Starting the day by finishing off a suspended game from Sunday, the Central College softball team secured two additional victories Monday.
           
Picking up in the sixth inning of a 1-1 game against Hamilton University (N.Y.), Central answered one run by Hamilton in the top half with six runs of its own in the bottom. In the half inning, Central had four hits and took advantage of two errors to put up the six tallies for a 7-2 win.
           
Catcher Rylee Dunkin (junior, Hamilton, Twin Cedars HS) and second baseman Larissa Miller (junior, Ankeny) finished the game with two hits. Dunkin and first baseman Addi Starr (sophomore, Ankeny, Centennial HS) had two RBI apiece.
           
Peyton Levine (freshman, Oswego, Ill., Yorkville HS) pitched the full seven innings for a win. She struck out five and walked three while scattering seven hits and two runs.
           
Levine got a second win against Salve Regina University (R.I.) in a game that started after 9 p.m. local time. She retired nine of the 10 batters she faced, allowing one unearned run to score.
           
Central outscored the Seahawks 13-1 and outhit them 13-3, using 22 different players in the game. Centerfielder Carley Underwood (junior, Mitchellville, Colfax-Mingo HS) was the only Dutch player with multiple hits. Hannah Higgins (senior, Macomb, Ill.), Ayla Hall (freshman, Webster, Tri-County HS) and Addi Starr (sophomore, Ankeny, Centennial HS) each had two RBI.
           
The Hamilton and Salve Regina wins were sandwiched around a 12-3 victory over Saint Norbert College (Wis.). Complete stats from that game were unavailable.
           
Central is off Tuesday and returns to the Florida fields Wednesday against the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Rutgers University – Newark (N.J.)
