MELBOURNE, FLORIDA— A five-run first inning provided all the offense the Central College softball team needed in an 8-0 win Sunday afternoon.
Central's second game against Hamilton University (N.Y.) was tied 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning before the game was suspended for rain. The two teams will return to the field at 2 p.m. local time before Central plays its regularly scheduled doubleheader.
The Dutch were issued four walks in the first five batters of the Salve Regina game and took advantage. First baseman
Addi Starr's (sophomore, Ankeny, Centennial HS) double provided an extra burst by scoring two runs.
A pinch-hit single from
Katie Bower (junior, Kansas City, Liberty HS) in the third drove in a pair and put Central in front 8-0, which became the final score after the fifth inning.
Jadyn Huisman (sophomore, Treynor) was the starting pitcher, striking out four in 2.1 innings.
Ella Morse (freshman, Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS) threw 2.2 innings of relief and was credited with the win after retiring all eight batters she faced.
Continuing the Space Coast Spring Games Monday, Central plays Saint Norbert College (Wis.) at 4:45 p.m. (EST) and Salve Regina at 7 p.m. (EST).
