MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Playing the first two games of its trip to the Space Coast Spring Games resulted in two triumphs for the Central College softball team Saturday night.
Central (5-1) started with an 8-0 win over Rivier University (N.H.) in a run-shortened contest before taking down Lakeland University (Wis.) 5-1.
Jadyn Huisman (sophomore, Treynor) was in the circle against Rivier and struck out seven batters in 4.0 innings. She yielded just one hit and one walk.
Huisman also led the Dutch offensively with two hits against Rivier, including an RBI Double. Center fielder
Carley Underwood (junior, Mitchellville, Colfax-Mingo HS) scored a pair of runs from her No. 9 spot in the lineup.
Peyton Levine (freshman, Oswego, Ill., Yorkville HS) was the winning pitcher against the Muskies, throwing 4.2 innings with just one earned run on two walks and five hits. She struck out five.
Ella Morse (freshman, Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS) threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
At the plate, shortstop
Sarah Stufflebeam (junior, Macomb, Ill.) had two RBI doubles. Huisman had two more hits and two more RBI.
Continuing the Space Coast Spring Games Sunday, Central plays Salve Regina University (R.I.) at 12:15 p.m. (EST) and Hamilton University (N.Y.) at 2:30 p.m. (EST).
