MOUNT VERNON— Claiming its first victory of the season, the Central College men's tennis defeated Cornell College 5-2 on the road Sunday.
The Dutch (1-6) secured the doubles point against the Rams (5-5) by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Bodi Kortz (freshman, Wormerveer, Netherlands/St. Michael College) and
Alex Slaymaker (Junior, Geneseo, Ill.) won 6-3 at the top of the lineup.
Donovan Klish (sophomore, Liberty, Mo., North HS) and
Hayden Sinclair (junior, Ames) won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Slaymaker won his No. 2 singles 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.
Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy (junior, Kerrville, Texas, Tivy HS) also won a thriller 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 at No. 3 singles.
Francisco Molina Centeno (freshman, Mexico City, Mexico, Centro Educativo Jean Piaget) no won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and
Quin Hull (senior, Ottumwa) was 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 6 singles.
Central plays two matches in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday, starting with Carleton College (Minn.) at 12:30 p.m. followed by Hamline University (Minn.) at 4 p.m.
