DULUTH, MINNESOTA— A first-half lead was undone by two late goals by the College of Saint Scholastica (Minn.) in a 2-1 loss for the Central College men's soccer team Friday.
Fernando Reyes (junior, Storm Lake) made his first appearance in the starting XI and tallied his third goal of the season.
Lucas De la Cuba (freshman, Lima, Peru, Ankeny Centennial HS) put a shot on frame that was saved but Reyes followed immediately for a 1-0 lead.
The Saints scored in the 54th and 79th minute to win the match. Central outshot St. Scholastica 16-9 but eight saves by the Saints stymied the Dutch offensive attack.
Injuries were a key factor for Central again as
Jack Hillis (senior, midfielder, Clive, Waukee HS) and
Isiah Guyton (sophomore, midfielder/forward, Davenport, Bettendorf HS) were out of the starting lineup for the first time all year. Goalkeeper
Morgan Finkenbinder (junior, Elkhorn, Neb., Skutt Catholic HS) also missed his third consecutive game. Freshmen
Logan Harswick (Gilbert), Sam Dahlem (Swisher, Cedar Rapids, Prairie HS) and
Lucas Luick-Martens (freshman, Polk City, North Polk HS) have a combined six starts and also missed Friday's contest
Central completes the non-conference portion of its season with a 4-3-1 mark. The Dutch open the American Rivers Conference season at home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. against Nebraska Wesleyan University.
