Central dealt a defeat in league’s men’s soccer opener

Dutch shutout by Prairie Wolves

PELLA— The Central College men's soccer team was held off the scoreboard in a 1-0 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan University to start the American Rivers Conference slate of games Tuesday.
           
Central (4-4-1) managed just one shot attempt in the first 45 minutes of a scoreless of a first half.
           
The Prairie Wolves got the game's lone goal in the 51 st minute. Central fired off eight shots in the second half in a desperate attempt at an equalizer but never found it. Central's best shot came three minutes after the goal when Cooper Collins (junior, Clive, Waukee Northwest HS) put a ball on frame from close range but was saved by the Prairie Wolf keeper.
           
Goalkeeper Morgan Finkenbinder (junior, Elkhorn, Neb., Skutt Catholic HS) made five saves in net for the Dutch.
           
Central goes back on the road Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. match at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
