AMES — Spreading out all to three separate competitions over the weekend, the Central College men's and women's track and field programs had seven new marks inside the top 50 nationally.
On Friday at the Cyclone Open hosted at Iowa State University.
Peyton Steffen (senior, Marion) is up to No. 4 nationally in the women's mile with a time 4 minutes, 55.68 seconds after finishing runner-up. She also broke her own school record in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:56.58.
Maddy Stevens's (freshman, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) mile time of 5:02.69 placed her seventh at the meet and No. 34 nationally
Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk) took sixth in the men's 3,000 meters (8:26.72) and is now No. 32 in Division III.
At Monmouth's Midwest Invitational Saturday,
Ava Parkins (junior, Monmouth, Ill., Burlington Notre Dame HS [Iowa]) and
Emily McMartin (senior, Pella) finished first and second in the women's 400-meter dash with times of 58.39 seconds and 58.59 seconds, respectively. Parkins is No. 18 in Division III and McMartin is No. 22
Parkins and McMartin were joined by
Olivia Bohlen (senior, Belle Plaine) and
Alivia Roerdink (junior, Tiffin, Ohio, Hopewell-Loudon HS) on the winning women's 4x400-meter relay team that is No. 9 in Division III in a time of 3:58.29
At the Prairie Wolf Indoor Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska Friday night,
Kale Purcell (fifth year, Holton, Kan.) won the men's triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, 6.5 inches. He was also third in the long jump at 21-6.75
Gunner Meyer (senior, Fairbank, Wapsie Valley HS) won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 7.98 seconds and
Grant Miller (senior, Norwalk) was second in 8.35. Miller's time is up to No. 35 nationally.
The majority of the Dutch roster will compete at the Grinnell Invitational next Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Central will also it's Dutch Winter Multi Meet on Thursday and Friday inside H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse. Action starts at 1 p.m. both days.
