MOUNT VERNON — The Central College women's wrestling team secured some big wins in its return to action Saturday at the Cliff Keen – Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell College.
Central had not competed since December 6.
Dakota Cornell (freshman, Shellsburg, Vinton-Shellsburg HS) was 2-2 on the day at 160 pounds, winning once by fall and once by technical fall.
Alondra Alvarez Chavez (freshman, Northglenn, Colo., Standley Lake HS) and
Madilyn Rowson (sophomore, Knoxville, Pleasantville HS) each had one victory by fall.
Esther Belzer (senior, 138 pounds, Kalona, Hillcrest Academy) battled for a 6-4 decision in the 138-pound bracket
Asia Young (junior, Houston, Texas, Cypress Ridge HS) and
Kalondria Carter (sophomore, Lewisville, Texas) were the only competitors in the 235-pound bracket. Young won two of three bouts to take first.
Central hosts the American Rivers Conference Championships next Saturday inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium starting at 10 a.m.
