PELLA—Six of the seven varsity runners for the Central College women's cross country team were making their debut as the squad took the crown at the Central Dutch Invitational Friday night.
Central had 26 points, finishing ahead of Grinnell College's 42 points.
Freshmen
Maddy Stevens (Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) and
Breckyn Peterson (Glenwood) led the team with second (19 minutes, 3 seconds) and third-place finishes (19:04.5) in the 5,000-meter race.
Another trio of freshmen were next as
Kyra Cordes (Marion) was sixth (19:23.4),
Reeve Ristau (Denver) was seventh (19:34.0) and
Addie Doughan (Clear Lake) was eighth (19:39.2)
The lone returner for Central,
Teah Miller (junior, Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) was ninth (19:44.4) and just outside the team scoring.
Olivia Primrose (Palo, Vinton-Shellsburg HS) was 10th (19:44.5).
The Dutch continue their season next Saturday at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College.
