Two Saturday volleyball wins for Central

Dutch finish tournament weekend 2-1

SAINT PAUL, MINN. — The Central College volleyball team started Saturday with a sweep of St. Catherine University (Minn.) on its home court before taking down the University of Wisconsin – Superior in four sets.

Central (5-3) won 25-23, 25-20, 25-12 against the Wildcats (2-5). The Dutch finished the trip with a 25-23, 25-22, 7-25, 25-13 victory over the Yellow Jackets (4-4).

"Today we saw some really good things," coach Jeanne Czipri said. "I was really pleased with how both of our setters distributed the ball much more balanced than last night, which allowed more people to become a factor."

Paige Sexton (junior, Sheridan, Ill., Serena HS) had 13 kills against Wis.-Superior and 12 against St. Catherine to lead the Dutch. Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) had 14 against Wis.-Superior and Leslie Snow (senior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) had 11 against St. Catherine.

Makayla Ribble (senior, Iowa City) had 39 assists on the day, and Landry Pacha (junior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) had 37. Mumm assisted on eight blocks between the two matches and libero Colleen Kenney (senior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) had team-highs for digs in both matches, logging 19 against Wis.-Superior and 16 against St. Catherine.

Central hosts a triangular with Westminster College (Mo.) and Lawrence University (Wis.) on Wednesday starting at 3 p.m.
