Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk) put together a strong opening race at the Central Dutch Invitational Friday as the Central College men's cross country team took second.
Park University (Mo.) scored 29 points to edge the total of 31 for Central in the team race. Brown completed the 6,000-meter race in 18 minutes and 51 seconds to win.
William Wadsley (junior, Gilbert) was next for the Dutch in fifth place (19:03.8).
Donovan Card (junior, Norwalk) and
Jack Every (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) both crossed the line in 19:28.7 to take seventh and eighth place.
Mason Back (junior, Winterset) was the final scorer for Central in 19:45.5 to place 10th.
Austin Vander Werf (sophomore, Saint Charles, Interstate 35 HS) and
Andrew Mahaffey (sophomore, Guthrie Center, ACGC HS) were the final varsity runners for Central in 13th place (19:48.9) and 15th place (19:51.5).
The Dutch continue their season next Saturday at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College
