Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk) took seventh overall to lead the Central College men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships.
Wartburg College won the team title with 30 points. Isaac vanWestrienen of Cornell College won the 8,000-meter race in 24 minutes, 0.9 seconds.
Brown finished in 24:31.4, fifth amongst American Rivers Conference runners.
William Wadsley (junior, Gilbert) was 16th in 24:48.4.
The other three scorers for the Dutch were
Donovan Card (junior, Norwalk) in 43rd (25:49.4),
Ben Every (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) in 58th (26:28.2) and
Dillon Starlin (sophomore, Creston) was 67th (26:35.7).
Completing the seven-man varsity lineup were
Jack Every (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) in 82nd (26:50.4) and
Andrew Mahaffey (sophomore, Guthrie Center, ACGC HS) in 83rd (26:50.6)
The NCAA Division III Championships are set for next Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Brown is guaranteed at least an individual spot by finishing in the top seven. Central could be one of 22 teams chosen for at-large selection or Wadsley might make the cut as an individual. Final selections will be announced Sunday.
