Central men’s soccer team caps off non-conference play with a shutout win over Cornell

Dutch win third match in a row, second consecutive shutout

PELLA — It was a strong showing for the Central College men's soccer team on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to three with a 2-0 home victory over Cornell College.

Trysten Vasquez (senior, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Xavier HS) got the scoring started for the Dutch with an unassisted goal at the 40:48 mark. Ian Gredell (sophomore, West Des Moines, Iowa, Dowling Catholic HS) followed this up with yet another unassisted goal at the 89:57 mark. This was the first goal of the early season for both Vasquez and Gredell.

Defensively, the Dutch put on a clinic, holding Cornell to zero goals and only allowing them one shot on goal. This shot on goal resulted in a save by Central goalie Morgan Finkenbinder (sophomore, Elkhorn, Neb.). This is the second game in a row that Central has shut out their opponent—the defense seems to be firing on all cylinders.

Conference play is up next for the Dutch, who stay at home for homecoming weekend, hosting the University of Dubuque on Saturday, September 27 starting at 3 p.m.
