ROCK ISLAND, ILL. — Breaking out of its offensive slump, the Central College men's soccer team prevailed 2-1 at Augustana College (Ill.) Tuesday night.
Central (2-2-2) entered the contest having not scored in three matches, sandwiching a pair of 0-0 home draws around a loss to a ranked opponent. Freshman
Nick DeVoss (freshman, Lee's Summit, MO, St. Michael the Archangel HS) halted that scoreless snide with his first collegiate tally in the 39th minute.
Less than a minute into the second half,
Alejo Marcon's (senior, Resistencia, Argentina, Pella Christian HS) corner kick found the head of
Nate Lampe (sophomore, Newton) in front of the net for the game's second goal.
The Vikings (1-3-2) got on the board in the 62nd minute but Central stiffened its defense up to polish off the win. Goalkeeper
Morgan Finkenbinder (sophomore, Elkhorn, Neb., Skutt Catholic HS) made two saves in the win.
Central plays a pair of matches in Wisconsin this weekend, starting at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls at 4 p.m. on Friday.
