RIPON, WIS. — The Central College volleyball team needed just six sets to earn two wins Friday night at the Red Hawks Invitational hosted by Ripon University.
Central (7-5) swept Buena Vista University (3-6) in a non-conference tilt 25-15, 25-24, 25-20. The Dutch followed that up with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-11 win over Mount Mary University (Wis.) [1-12].
"We executed today against a talented, young Buena Vista team," coach
Jeanne Czipri said. "Against Mount Mary, we had the opportunity to provide some other players with much needed experience. Glad they finished it the way they did."
Middle hitter
Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS led the team with 12 kills and three blocks against Buena Vista.
Makayla Ribble (senior, Iowa City) had three services and 13 set assists.
Colleen Kenney (senior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Alleman HS) had 13 digs.
In the second match, Ribble had a team-high seven kills.
Avery Allenstein (freshman, Sioux Falls, S.D., Roosevelt HS) led the team with five blocks.
Grace Corey (freshman, Watertown, S.D.) paced Central with 16 assists and nine digs.
Rachel Bowers (sophomore, Orion, Ill.) had three aces.
The Dutch play two more matches Saturday at the Red Hawks Invitational against Maranatha Baptist University (Wis.) and Ripon University (Wis.)
