LEXINGTON, KY.— Finding its groove on day two, the Central College men's golf team jumped up two spots to No. 10 at the Transylvania Fall Invitational Sunday.
Central finished the 54-hole tournament played on the par-72 Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky with a total score of 304-306-298—908. Transylvania University (Ky.) won its own tournament 286-294-290—870.
Blake Wynn (senior, Milan, Ill., Sherrard HS) was Central's top finisher in 32nd place overall. He carded a 73 Sunday to finish 78-74-73—225.
"Blake was a real fighter in this tournament," coach
Mel Blasi said. "Even though he made some mental mistakes, he was able to recover and move forward."
Bautista Valeiras (sophomore, Naples, Fla., Gulf Coast HS) was next for Central with a three-round total of 73-78-75—226 in 41st place.
"Bautista has worked really hard at his short game and has become a really good all-around player," Blasi said. "I'm excited about his future."
Shooting Central's best round of the tournament Sunday,
Carter Yurgae (sophomore, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) 78-77-72—227 placed 46th.
"Carter was terrific off the tee today and had a few more putts drop," Blasi said.
Maison Brandt (sophomore, Byron, Ill.) was 54th (76-77-78—231) and
Crew Klingner (sophomore, Williamsburg) was 85th (77-86-80—243) to complete the Dutch lineup
Central travels to Lake Geneva, Wis. for the Firebird Fall Invitational hosted by Carthage College (Wis.) September 8 and 9.
