LEXINGTON, KY.— Playing 36 holes Saturday, the Central College men's golf team is in 12th of 19 teams at the Transylvania Fall Invitational.
Central shot rounds of 304 and 306, placing them in a three-way tie for 12th place. McDaniel College (Md.) leads with a two-round total of 286-286—572. The teams played at the University Club of Kentucky on the par-72 Big Blue Course.
"After a couple of weeks of really competitive and promising practice and qualifying, we really stumbled out of the gates today," coach
Mel Blasi said.
Bautista Valeiras (sophomore, Naples, Fla., Gulf Coast HS) had the low score for the Dutch on the day, nearly breaking par in the first round with a 73 and finishing at 73-78—151 for the day.
"He struck the ball very well and made a couple of nice birdies early to get off to a good start," Blasi said.
Blake Wynn (senior, Milan, Ill., Sherrard HS) is in 41st place after shooting 78-74-152.
"Blake battled back from a slow start in round two to play the last seven holes two-under par," Blasi said. "

Maison Brandt (sophomore, Byron, Ill.) is 48th (76-77—153),
Carter Yurgae (sophomore, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) is in 61st (78-77—155) and
Crew Klingner (sophomore, Williamsburg) is in 87th (77-86—163)
Central concludes its trip to Kentucky with 18 more holes Sunday.
"Tomorrow is a new day to and a new opportunity to prove ourselves," Blasi said.
