PELLA— Central College sophomore Jack Brown (Norwalk) was named the American Rivers Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
           
Competing at the Wartburg Outdoor Select Saturday at Waverly in cold, blustery conditions, Brown raced to first place in the 1,500 meters, an event that attracted 86 entrants, including multiple NCAA Division I and II athletes. He finished in 3:56.51 seconds in his first outdoor performance of the spring, just over 3 seconds above his career-best time of 3:53.28 established last May.
           
Brown is coming off a seventh-place showing in the mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships March 14-15 at Rochester, New York.
           
The Dutch compete Friday at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake University in Des Moines.
