Central women’s tennis team opens its spring season with a loss

The Dutch will play two matches Wednesday

Box Score
LAKELAND, FLA. — The Central college women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 7-0 loss against Calvin College (Mich.).

"Calvin is a good team and for the first match [of the spring season] we looked good while showing our depth," said coach Ryun Ferrell. "We started slow during the doubles matches, but once we got going, we looked good. Once we play more, we will continue to get better."

The Knights (5-1) took all three doubles matches over Central (7-5) to secure the first point of the match.

In the singles matches the Dutch couldn't take a set in any match but at No. 6 singles Kalina Schubert (senior, Newell, Newell-Fonds HS) was able to force a tiebreak, before she ended up losing.

"I can always count on Schubert, she is tough and gives great effort every time she is on the court," Ferrell said.
