Busy start of season continues for Central women’s wrestling team

Dutch win four of five matches by fall

FOREST CITY — Competing for the third team in eight days, the Central College women's wrestling team was in action at the Waldorf Open Saturday.

The nine Dutch women competing totaled five individual victories in a strong field of NAIA and NCAA wrestlers.

Freshman Dakota Cornell (freshman, Shellsburg, Vinton-Shellsburg HS) won twice by fall in the consolation rounds of the 160-pound freshman-sophomore division.

In the varsity 207-pound weight class, Atalissa Lobberecht (freshman, Oskaloosa, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont HS) and Gwendalyn Canney (junior, Cedar Rapids, Kennedy HS) both pinned one opponent each in the consolation rounds.

Central's only win by decision came from 131-pounder Julia Kanne (sophomore, Auburn, Carroll HS), taking an 8-3 win over Lacu Lemburg of Southeast Community College (Neb.)

Central gets another crack at Cornell College in a dual when it welcomes the Rams to P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match.
