MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — Making a dominant run through one of the top early-season Division III tournaments,
Pierre Baldwin (senior, Chicago, Ill., West Chicago HS) highlighted the Central College men's wrestling team's trip to the Auggie Invitational hosted by Augsburg University Saturday.
Baldwin won all five of his matches en route to a 141-pound title. He took down three Division II wrestlers, including a 16-1 technical fall over Jordon Oehme of the University of Sioux Falls in the title bout.
Cade Siebrecht (senior, Lisbon) finished second at 149 pounds, losing to the No. 1 ranked wrestler in Division III Matt Randolph of Augsburg by a 7-4 margin in sudden victory in the final. He had an impressive 3-1 decision in the semifinal over Ethen Doty of Upper Iowa University, the No. 6 ranked wrestler in Division II.
Punctuating a 4-1 day with a 14-3 major decision in the fifth-place match at157 pounds,
Christian Stanek (junior, Cedar Rapids, Xavier HS) rebounded from a quarterfinal loss to win three straight matches to close out the day.
In the freshman division,
Abe Bushong (174 pounds, Pleasant Hill, Southeast Polk HS) and
Shane Hanford (165 pounds, Melbourne, West Marshall HS) were crowned bracket champions.
Dominick Marre and
Kyler Hall (junior, Boones, Ames HS, 285 pounds added a pair of fourth-place finishes in the varsity level at 125 and 285 pounds, respectively.
Central is headed to the La Crosse Duals on Saturday, December 6. The Dutch will battle the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and Augustana College (Ill.)
