WAVERLY — An offensive rampage by junior
Rylee Rustad (Gilbert, Ariz., Casteel HS) gave the Central College women's soccer team a 3-2 win and a spot in next week's American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals.
After gifting the Knights an own goal in the 28th minute, Wartburg made it 2-0 in the 31 st minute. Central was held scoreless through 70 minutes before Rustad took a pass from
Kylie Bloomstrom (sophomore, Forest Lake Minn,. Forest Lake Area HS) and gave the Dutch hope with her goal at the 70:13 mark.
Just over seven minutes later, Rustad connected on an own goal to level the contest. Only nine matters after that, Rustad put a ball in the box and
Grace Wolford (senior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) buried the go-ahead goal at the 86:37 mark.
"I've been doing this a long time and I don't know if I've ever been a part of a comeback like this," coach
Mike Kobylinski said. "Through the course of the match the team justified our belief in them."
Zoey Sizemore (junior, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) made six saves in goal for Central.
The victory was the 150th in Kobylinski's tenure piloting the Dutch women's program.
The Dutch will make a second consecutive trip to the league tournament semifinals where they will meet the regular season champions from the University of Dubuque on Wednesday night.
