DUBUQUE — The Central College men's cross country team had two all-league performances en route to a third-place finish at the American Rivers Conference Championships Saturday.
Wartburg College finished at the top of the team standings with 15 points. Wartburg runner Isaiah Hammerand was the individual champion, completing the 8,000-meter course in 23 minutes, 44.2 seconds.
The Dutch were third as a team with 93 points. It's the program second top-three finish in the last three years, but it's first on the road since 2015.
Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk and
William Wadsley (junior, Gilbert) gave Central a pair of top-10 finishes at the top of the lineup. Brown was eighth (24:17.5) and Wadsley was 10th (24:22.9).
The other three scorers for the Dutch were
Donovan Card (junior, Norwalk) in 37th (25:26.0),
Jack Every (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) in 38th (25:27.3) and
Ben Every (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) in 45th (25:37.6)
Completing the seven-man varsity lineup were
Andrew Mahaffey (sophomore, Guthrie Center, ACGC HS) in 47th (25:41.7) and
Mason Back (junior, Winterset) in 61st (25:57.3).
Central goes to Waverly for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, November 15.
