Central volleyball team goes on the road and bests Monmouth

Dutch get 14th win of season

MONMOUTH, ILL. — The Central College volleyball team took care of business on Thursday night with a 3-1 win in a non-conference match against Monmouth College (Ill.).

Monmouth had a kill on the first point of the night, but the Dutch quickly responded by rattling off seven straight points. They didn't look back after this, eventually winning the first set 25-10 while recording 16 kills.

Monmouth made things interesting, however, by winning the second set 25-19 and tying things up 1-1. This would be the last taste of defeat for the Dutch on the night, though, as they responded by winning set three (25-16) and set four (25-22) to secure the win.

"I'm glad we got the win," coach Jeanne Czipri said. "We took care of some things we have been working on but there is still room for improvement in other areas."

Central ended the night with 54 total kills, 25 total errors, and 143 total attacks. Leslie Snow (senior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) led the attack for the Dutch with 16 kills on the night—the match's highest total. She was followed by Rachel Bowers (sophomore, Orion, Ill.) who had 11 and Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) who had nine.

Colleen Kenney (senior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) was also a major contributor, leading the Dutch in both aces (four) and digs (16). Landry Pacha (junior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie) was setting everyone up, and it resulted in a career high of 24 assists. Maelyn Wainwright (sophomore, West Liberty) anchored Central's defense with a game high four blocks.

"Rachel had a fantastic match," Czipri said. "Our setters got her some great looks. Leslie and Colleen continue to get the job done when we need them, too."

Central has a quick turnaround with another game on Saturday when it returns to Pella after a two-game road trip with a home match against Wis.- River Falls starting at 4 p.m.
