Central gets 20th volleyball win in sweep of Loras

Dutch offense sharp in victory

PELLA — An efficient offensive performance by the Central College volleyball team helped the Dutch to a sweep over Loras College Friday night.

Central (20-7, 4-2 American Rivers Conference) dispatched the Duhawks (6-17, 2-4 conference) 25-21, 25-16, 25-17. The Dutch secured a third consecutive season with at least 20 wins for the first time since 2008-10.

Central had 52 kills and just 13 attacking errors on 130 attempts, recording a hitting percentage of .300. That's the fifth time this season Central has hit at least .300.

"What I'm most impressed with tonight was how balanced our offense was," coach Jeanne Czipri said. "Which is a compliment to not just our setters for spreading the wealth but also our passers and defenders."

Middle hitter Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) made her return from injury an impressive one with nine kills on 10 attempts and no errors. Fellow middle Maelyn Wainwright (sophomore, West Liberty) had 10 kills and 1 error on 18 attempts.

Leslie Snow (senior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) had another double-double while leading the team in kills (13) and digs (18).

Setter Landry Pacha (junior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) paced the squad with 20 assists with Makayla Ribble (senior, Iowa City) right behind with 17 assists.

The Dutch host the University of Dubuque at 11 a.m. Saturday.

"We're eager for a fun and challenging tomorrow," Czipri said.
