Game Recap: Volleyball |

Dutch volleyball team makes it four wins in a row

Central adds another non-conference win to its resume

PELLA— The Central College volleyball took advantage of its final non-conference game of the season, beating Illinois College in four sets Tuesday.

Central (19-7, 3-2 American Rivers Conference) defeated Illinois College (9-17) 25-12, 20-25, 25-19, 25-13.

Setters Makayla Ribble (senior, Iowa City) and Landry Pacha (junior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) controlled the Dutch offensive attack with 21 and 15 set assists, respectively. Right-side hitters Sophia Folkerts (Dike, Dike-New Hartford HS) and Rachel Bowers (sophomore, Orion, Ill.) impressed with nine and eight kills, respectively. Middle hitter Maelyn Wainwright (sophomore, West Liberty) also had seven kills.

"Both setters were able to get a lot of people involved tonight," coach Jeanne Czipri said. "Sophia and Rachel were exceptional tonight. I think we found Maelyn at the right moments for her to be successful."

Wainwright also led the team with four service access while Alayna Wentz (freshman, Fort Collins, Colo., Rocky Mountain HS) was in on four blocks. Libero Colleen Kenney (senior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) had 17 digs.

"I am a big believer that the game will present you with opportunities to learn the lesson and work through what you need to work through until you have no choice but to figure it out," Czipri said. "We're grateful for this last non-conference match to keep learning."

The Dutch are back to American Rivers Conference play on Friday, hosting Loras College at 6 p.m. With it being Halloween night, Coach Czipri is buying pizza for the best represented Central team in costume at the game.
