WAVERLY— For the first time since 2007, the Central College volleyball team picked up a road sweep at Wartburg College Saturday morning.
Central (16-7, 2-2 American Rivers Conference) started fast with a 25-15 win in the first set against Wartburg (14-7, 4-2 conference) before closing out the sweep 25-15, 25-21, 26-24.
Dutch setters
Makayla Ribble (senior, Iowa City) and
Landry Pacha (junior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) had 20 and 12 set assists, respectively.
"Our setters decision making was really strong," Czipri said.
Outside hitters
Leslie Snow (senior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) and
Paige Sexton (junior, Sheridan, Ill., Serena HS) each had 11 kills to lead the Dutch but Czipri said right-side hitters
Sophia Folkerts (junior, Dike, Dike-New Hartford HS) and
Rachel Bowers (sophomore, Orion, Ill.) crucial to the victory with nine and eight kills, respectively.
"We needed them to be solid today and they were exceptional," Czipri said.
Colleen Kenney (senior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) paced the team with 19 digs. Ribble added 15 for a double-double. Making her second varsity appearance, middle hitter
Alayna Wentz (freshman, Fort Collins, Colo., Rocky Mountain HS) led the team with four blocks.
The Dutch return home Tuesday to host Clarke University in a 6 p.m. match.
