PEORIA, ILL. — A pair of top-five finishers on the Central College men's cross country team propelled the team to a runner-up effort at the Bradley Pink Classic Friday afternoon.
Central scored 74 points to trail Grand Valley State University (Mich.) in the team standings.
"The men had a great race today," coach
Joe Dunham said. "I was happy with how smart they ran the entire 8K. We want our identity to be a second half of the race team, and I felt we really executed that well today."
Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk) took fourth in 25 minutes, 9.82 seconds and
William Wadsley (junior, Gilbert) was fifth in 25:10.38 to give Central a fantastic 1-2 punch at the top of its lineup.
"Jack and William are progressing nicely," Dunham said.
The other three scorers for the Dutch were
Donovan Card (junior, Norwalk) in 21st (25:48.20),
Jack Every (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) in 37th (26:19.88) and
Dillon Starlin (sophomore, Creston) in 47th (26:46.23).
"Our chase pack is really tightening things up," Dunham said.
Nathan Vander Waal (sophomore, Pella) was 49th (26:47.81) and
James Brant (sophomore, Tama, South Tama HS) was 50th (26:47.94) to close out the seven-man lineup.
Central travels to Dubuque for the American Rivers Conference Championships on Saturday, November 1.
