PELLA— Closing out its fall season with a team and individual title, the Central College men's golf squad won the Statesmen Invitational Tuesday afternoon.
Playing at the par-71 TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, Central topped the five-team field with a two-day total of 296-301—597. Playing as an individual, Dutch junior
Lincoln Eighmy (Carlisle) improved by six spots from day one to day two to win medalist honors at 75-70—145.
"Lincoln was stellar today," coach
Mel Blasi said. "He shot the only under par round of the tournament."
Blake Wynn (senior, Milan, Ill., Sherrard HS) secured runner-up honors with score of 74-72—146.
Jared Boyer (freshman, Springville, Utah, Merit Prep) shared fifth place (75-74—149) for his best collegiate finish.
"Blake was really consistent again," Blasi said. "It was great to see Jared really help us from the No. 5 spot."
Carter Yurgae (sophomore, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) shot 75-76—151 and
Maison Brandt (sophomore, Byron, Ill.) shot 75-79—151 to tie for seventh place.
Bautista Valeiras (sophomore, Naples, Fla., Gulf Coast HS) carded 78-80—158 for a 14 th place effort.
"Our guys put together a terrific couple of rounds," Blasi said. "Every player on our team was sharp and had stretches where they played exceptional golf."
Central will return to the course March 9 and 10 for the FST Pinecrest Invitational in Longview, Texas.
