ALTOONA, WISCONSIN— The Central College men's golf team shot a 319 and in 11th out of 18 teams after the first round of the Frank Wigglesworth Invitational.
The golf tournament is being played at the par-71 Eau Claire Golf and Country Club and American Rivers foe Nebraska Wesleyan is in the lead after they shot a 297.
"It was a rough day for us today," coach
Mel Blasi said. "The greens were quick and the pins tricky, but no excuses. We have to do a better job of being in scoring position and taking advantage of the opportunities when we have them. We have to get tougher and play with more confidence."
Leading the Dutch is
Blake Wynn (junior, Milan, Ill., Sherrard) who shot a 76 and is in a tie for 16th.
Bautista Valeiras (freshman, Naples, Fla., Gulf Coast) is two strokes behind after he shot a 78.
Maison Brandt (freshman, Byron, Ill.) is in a tie for 38th with a 79.
"Brandt had a good round going until some late trouble really hurt him and Valeiras was steady all day," Blosi said.
Crew Klingner (freshman, Williamsburg) is in a tie with teammate
Carter Yurgae (freshman, West Des Moines, Dowling) who both shot an 81. The final golfer who traveled is
Kayden Pendergrass (senior, Mount Vernon) who shot an 82.
The squad returns to the course tomorrow to finish the Invitational at 10 a.m.
