LINCOLN, NEB. — With five of seven multi-event entries in scoring position after the first day, the Central College track and field team's trip to the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Championships got under way Thursday.
In the women's heptathlon,
Olivia Bohlen (sophomore, Belle Plaine) leads the field and is four hundred points clear of the next closest competitor. She had the best 100-meter hurdles time (15.01 seconds), shot put mark (34 feet, 11 inches) and 200-meter dash time (26.55 seconds).
Karsyn Lamm (junior, Mount Pleasant) is in sixth place through four events with 2,076 points. She had the third-best 100-meter hurdles time in 17.02 seconds.
Sage Austin (freshman, Carlisle) was the best high jumper in the fielder, clearing 4-11.5, but is in 11th place with 1,770 points.
On the Men's side Central has four of the top eight in the decathlon.
Gavin Smith (sophomore, Audubon) is in second and just 10 points behind the leader with 3,474 points.
Gage Huyser (sophomore, Pella) is third with 3,445 points and
Kale Hobart (freshman, Mason City) is in fourth with 3,276 points. Completing his first decathlon of the season,
Jaxon Thompson (senior, Marion, Linn-Mar HS) is in 10th place with 2,894 points. Smith had the best long jump (22-5.25) and shot put (40-6) marks in the field. Huyser was second in the 100-meter dash (11.34 seconds).
Day two of the decathlon and heptathlon starts at 1 p.m. Thursday.
