Central’s cheer and dance teams excel at national meet

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA — The Central College dance and cheerleading teams competed at the NDA/NCA (National Dance Alliance/National Cheerleaders Association) College Nationals in April, setting new program standards.
           
The dance team entered Pom and Jazz Division III categories. In Pom, Central took second overall while setting its highest score in program history at 90.7429. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (94.1429) was the winner. Central also broke into the top three of Jazz for the first time, scoring an 87.9429. Alma College (Mich.) won that category (93.2286)
           
Competing in the Spirit Rally Open Division, Central's cheerleading team had an event score of 75.075 to finish eighth. Penn State University – Behrend won with 92.025.
           
"The dance and cheer teams could not be prouder to represent Central College," coach Lexi Gbogbo said. "These past couple of years we have put a stamp on our name at NDA/NCA College Nationals and we will continue to do so in the future. This season has been all about teamwork: working together, finding solutions together and bonding together. I cannot wait to bring on next season even stronger!"
           
Dance team members include Bri Clark (freshman, Romeoville, Ill.), Alysha Coyle (senior, Ankeny), Jordan Crooks (freshman, Mount Pleasant), Chayse Gilchrist (freshman, Fairfield), Lanee Hall (freshman, Van Meter), Tessa Huff (senior, Ames), Katie McConnell (freshman, Erie, Ill.), Jessie Pospisil (sophomore, Cedar Rapids), Rylie Preston (freshman, Geneseo, Ill.) and Kami Sickels (senior, Des Moines).
           
Cheer team members include Sydney Buseman (sophomore, Hampton), Clark, Madison Craig (sophomore, Solon), Lillie McKee (senior, Mingo), Kassidy Otto (freshman, Center Point), Samantha Pagel (freshman, Madrid), Averi Shride (sophomore, Burlington), Abbie Stelk (freshman, Bettendorf), Haley Wallin (sophomore, Northwood) and Maggie Williams (sophomore, Newton).
