WEST DES MOINES — Another solid round from
Jacob Moffett (senior, Mount Pleasant) Monday has the Central College's men's golfer leading the field at the American Rivers Conference Championships through 36 holes.
Playing on the Par-71 course at Glen Oaks Country Club, Moffett is in sole possession of first place with a two-day score of 72-74—146. He's two strokes clear of Nebraska Wesleyan University Harrison Weddell in second place at 73-75—148."
"Jacob was our bright spot today," coach
Mel Blasi said. "He drove the ball well again today and his short game was really sharp on the back nine."
As a team, Central tallied a 320 on Monday and slipped to fourth place (306-320—626). Luther College moved into first place at 301-309—610.
The rest of Central's lineup all carded scores of at least 80 on a breezy day in Central Iowa.
Harold Dobernecker (senior, Nevada) had Central's next best round and is tied for 15th at 78-81—159.
"Everyone else really struggled on the front, which put a lot of pressure on them on the back," Blasi said. "The winds were tougher today and the back nine is very demanding. Overall, it was our start today that really hurt us."
Kayden Pendergrass (junior, Mount Vernon) shot an 82 and is tied for 17th (78-82—160).
John Oltman (senior, Pella) and Cole McGriff (senior, Grinnell) both shot 83. Oltman is tied for 22nd (78-83—161) and McGriff is tied for 38th (85-83—168)
Central will tee off at 9:45 a.m. for the third and final round of the league championships.
