Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Central women’s basketball team loses to a nationally ranked squad

The Dutch return to the court Saturday at 1 p.m.

OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN— In its first game away from P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium the Central College women's basketball team fell to No. 8 ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 81-49.

Central (4-2) outscored the Titans in the second half 34-33.

"We have some work to do and things to get better at, but we battled and played our game in the second half," said coach Justin Weiland. "I liked our response, but we need to put two good halves of basketball together. (Wis.-Oshkosh) played great but we need to continue to work on the little things that help win games."

The Dutch were unable to keep up with the shooting from Wis.-Oshkish (5-0) who shot 50% from the field and 41.9% from behind the three-point line.

Samantha Scott (senior, Davenport, North Scott HS) was a perfect 3-3 from the field with all shots being from three-point land and she scored nine points.

"We found a way to get (Scott) some open looks and she was able to knock them down," Weiland said.

CeCe Moore (sophomore, Waterloo, West HS) also scored nine points on 4-8 shooting. She also grabbed six rebounds including three offensive rebounds and recorded one steal.

"CeCe collected some nice offensive rebounds and went back up with them," said Weiland. "Everyone that played had some bright spots we just need to find ways to make our lives easier."

Gabby Moore (senior, Waterloo, West HS) scored seven points, while also leading the team with three assists. Abby Johnson (senior, Ankeny) and Jasmyn Williams (junior, Denver, Colo., Arvada West HS) both scored six points and recorded one assist.

"Gabby was physical going downhill and was able to get herself to the free throw line, while also making tough layups," Weiland said.

The squad returns to the court Saturday at 1 p.m. once again in Oshkosh, Wisconsin but this time it faces the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
