Central women’s soccer team starts fast in win against Coe

Seegers and Santana both score a goal and collect an assist

PELLA— The Central College women's soccer team collected its eighth shutout of the season, defeating Coe College 5-0 Wednesday.

The Dutch (9-5-2, 2-2-2 American Rivers) got off to a fast start when Piper Eighmy (sophomore, Birmingham Ala., Briarwood Academy) scored her third goal of the season in the first minute of the game. Alli Seegers (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) added the assist.

Amber Santana (senior, Indio Calif., Shadow Hills HS) added to the fast start scoring her fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute of the match from an assist by Grace Coates (senior, Marion)

"We had a fantastic start," said coach Mike Kobylinski. "I thought that was the best start to a match we have had this season and when you set the tone good things inevitably happen."

In the 43rd minute, a handball in the box led to a converted penalty kick from Abby Frey (5th-year, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS) scoring her fifth goal of the season.

The team was not done scoring and added on to its lead in the 56th minute when Seegers scored her third goal of the season from an assist by Santana.

The final score was an own goal from Coe (3-11-2, 0-5-1 American Rivers) in the 79th minute off a corner kick.

"Every game in our league is tough so to get another shutout is great," Kobylinski said. "I was able to rotate almost everyone in and it was great to see minutes from different people while maintaining a balanced attack. When we have that we are a tough team to stop."

Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) collected four saves.

The squad returns to the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field Saturday when it hosts Nebraska Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m.
