WAVERLY— After a scoreless first half the Central college women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Wartburg College.
"Today was a very well-earned point," said coach
Mike Kobylinski. "We gutted out a result against a very good opponent. At times (Wartburg) was on their heals and this game was a back-and-forth battle."
After Wartburg (8-5-3, 4-1-1 American Rivers) scored in the 46th minute, the Dutch got the equalizer in the 73rd minute when
Piper Eighmy (sophomore, Birmingham, Ala., Briarwood Academy) scored her second goal of the season off a rebound from a shot by
Grace Coates (senior, Marion).
"We talked about having hunger in the box all week and I love the way we willed that goal today to earn a point," Kobylinski said.
Goalkeeper
Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) collected eight saves.
The Dutch (8-5-3, 1-2-2 American Rivers) put five of their 14 shots on goal with Coates and
Kylie Bloomstrom (freshman, Forest Lake, Minn., Forest Lake Area HS) leading the team with two shots on goal each.
The team looks to extend its point streak to four games Wednesday when it hosts Coe College on the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field at 3:30 p.m.
"We will be hungry for points against Coe, but we also need to trust the process in how we learn from match to match, and trust our skill and development," Kobylinski said. "We feel we are building momentum and starting to peak at the right time of the season."
