WAVERLY— For the second match in a row, the Central College men's soccer team lost 1-0 Saturday against Wartburg College.
After a scoreless first half when there was one shot on goal, Wartburg (7-4-3, 4-2-0 American Rivers) gained control of the match in the second half and in the 64th minute the Knights scored the lone goal.
"It was another great battle," said coach
Garry Laidlaw. "I think our team took another step in its development and learning what it takes to win in this league."
The Dutch (6-5-2, 2-2-1 American Rivers) were outshot 13-8 along with shots on goal 6-2.
Teddy Apostolopoulos (freshman, Pella) and
Joe Brown (senior, Norwalk) were the players to register a shot on goal.
"We created a few moments pushing for the equalizer late in the match where the ball pin-balled around their box, but we weren't able to find the back of the net," Laidlaw said. "We'll keep working to get better and we believe we are heading in the right direction with our play."
Goalkeeper
Ronan Murphy (senior, Des Moines, Roosevelt) grabbed five saves.
The Dutch will look to rebound Wednesday when they host Coe College on the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field at 1 p.m.
